9th July 2010
Pavehall and Southend Council
To celebrate the successful completion of their refurbishment project on Southend Pier, CBC Pavehall chartered the Tail Ship Atlantis for a trip from the end of the pier on the evening of 9 July 2010. A number of Pavehall staff and Southend Council employees enjoyed a three hour trip out into the Thames estuary on one of the warmest nights of the yearand during which the fitter members of the group had to carry out their share of hoisting the many sails on the ship.
Work started in October 2009 and taking up the existing asphalt and resurfacing the pier dck, whilst keeping the station and pier offices underneath weather tight during an extremely wet and windy late autum and winter, proved extremely challenging for Pavehall.
By working very closely with southend Council's Enterprise, Tourism and Enviroment Department, and despite the dificulities of carrying out the work during one of the worst winters in many years, the project was successfuly completed in time for the busy summer period on the pier.
